In recovery coaching, we say, “You’re in recovery when you say you’re in recovery.”
If you are managing your addiction in way that allows you to feel you’re making continuous progress towards reaching your full potential, as you define it, you can confidently say that you are in recovery without meeting anyone else’s definitions or criteria. Complete abstinence from any substances, medication assisted recovery, abstinence from your “substance of choice” - you decide what helps you set and reach your personal goals. Being in recovery is a personal decision and a personal commitment to yourself. A recovery coach can help you define your personal recovery, establish your recovery goals, find recovery supports that work for you and maintain your recovery as you define it.
